I make money and I watch Netflix! No, I didn’t accidentally write one of my affirmations in a public post, but I’m tired of being Netflix shamed.

Everytime I see some guru online talking about ‘If you really wanted this business you’d give up Netflix.’ ‘Work harder’ ‘Hustle’ – it pushes my buttons!

You know what. I tried it. I gave up everything. I worked 12 hour days. I stopped socializing. I barely stopped to eat meals. It made me miserable.

And, I didn’t make any extra money.

Here’s the thing I realized. Building a business, it’s a long game.

It takes a good 2-3 years to really get something going. That’s if you’re not a serial ‘Pivoter’ like me (still trying to work it out).

This 12 hour days, 6 days a week lifestyle I had for 9 months. Sure, I had the badge of busy. But I was so unhappy.

There wasn’t any balance in my life. A balance I was happy with.

For me, there’s no point living for the destination, if I’m so miserable through the journey.

I don’t know about you, but when I’m miserable, I don’t get clients. I don’t increase my income. I don’t get new ideas.

I need space and time to have ideas for new products, services, or marketing strategies.

I need breaks so that I’m actually enthusiastic when I sit down to work on my business.

So people can feel that enthusiasm in my work.

So that potential clients are attracted to my confidence (because working to the point of exhaustion isn’t the action of someone who’s confident).

The day after I made the decision to cut my hours back, I landed a new client – the first in months.

I took it as a sign from the Universe.

And, I’ve been keeping myself to 8 hour days (mostly).

Since I put in that limitation. I’ve had to be more strategic. I’m even starting to outsource some things.

But I’m happy and I’m still making money.

I’ve noticed so much in our online business space a culture of ‘if you’re not earning enough it’s because you’re not working hard enough’

Except wasn’t that the whole point of breaking out of the 9-5 life.

To stop trading time for dollars?

Do you think some sort of shift might be happening soon?

Are you working the 12 hour a day, 6 days a week lifestyle? Does it fuel you? I know it seems to for some people.
